Hamachi

Scott and I have recently started using a VPN client called Hamachi to create our own LAN. The Hamachi client is super secure. All of the information going between the computers on the LAN are encrypted using industry-standards algorithms and
protocols. One of the best parts about Hamachi is that there is no configuration needed. All you have to do is download the client, run the setup, create a new user, create or join a network and you are off and running. We have only come across one instance where some extra configuring needed to be done.
After you have the Hamachi client set up on two or more computers you have created your own local area network. The computers could be on opposite sides of the country or opposite sides of the world for that matter and it will look as if they are sitting in the same office on the same network. This is great for file sharing or running applications that require all users to be on the same network.
Currently Scott and I both work out of our homes. With Hamachi though we are on the same network. We have a server at his office that holds all of the software that we use. I can access the server quickly and easily as if I was in the next room. The uses for Hamachi are endless. The web site for Hamachi is http://hamachi.cc/
