Backup Solution For Windows Vista

After all of my griping about Windows Vista I though I should throw in a bit of good news.   OK, are you ready for this…..Windows Vista has a great backup program.   Unlike its useless cousin, ntbackup, this program looks like it might actually provide a built in viable option for data backup.   The interface is easy to interact with and gives you some options, but not too many to confuse the layman.    Finally we will not have to use third party applications to do simple backups of our documents, pictures and music.

Reader Comments on Vista

Well apparently I’m not the only one who has issues with Microsoft Windows Vista.  I’ve posted a link below to a Lifehacker article that has some interesting readers comments about Vista.    I’m not posting my problems with Vista to scare you away, I want you as a reader of my blog to me informed of what you are getting yourself into if you decide to do the Vista jump.   As a company, surge technology services is not recommending that you run out to your local retailer and pick up a copy of Vista.  Currently we feel it is not ready for the masses.  Microsoft, it turns out, feels differently.

Windows Vista First Impressions

Last night I installed Microsoft’s lastest entry into the PC operating system market, Windows Vista.  Impressed?  Well, not really.   The installation needs at least 15 GB of free space right off the bat to get started.   Most older computer don’t have that kind of space laying around, mine didn’t either.  After cleaning some things out I got the installation started and it took a couple of hours to complete.   The additional eye candy that Microsoft has included are striking, but don’t get excited yet.   If you don’t have a high end graphics card you will be stuck with the mediocre version which is still better then XP.
The security that Microsoft has embedded into Vista can be a bear to get anything done.   I’m sure you’ve all seen the Mac commercial with the two guys, Mac and PC.  One of the newest ones has Mac and PC standing there with a secret service looking guy standing in between them.   Everything that Mac says to PC gets passed through this guy for approval.   This commercial is no joke.   Every click within the control panel required approval.   I clicked on it silly, I do want to open it, if I didn’t want to open it I wouldn’t have clicked on it.
That’s my rant for now.   In the coming days I will be diving deeper into Vista and maybe my view will change but for now this my first impression.
